BackgroundEdit

Tony Sheridan made several recordings in Hamburg on the Polydor label (then a small local label, little-known even in Hamburg) under the patronage of Bert Kaempfert. All these recordings were credited to "Tony Sheridan and the Beat Brothers," although the backing group varied; in at least one of these sessions "the Beat Brothers" were the Beatles. It was under this arrangement that the Beatles recorded their first released single, with a cover of "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean" as the A-side and of "When the Saints Go Marching In" as the B-side; they also recorded several other tracks, including "Cry For a Shadow" which was so-called because it was in the style of The Shadows.
